(2 more finals to go, by the way)

The new iPod & iTunes commercial features the Gorillaz single "Feel Good Inc" with dancers/skaters rolling around on oldskool rollerskates. I have a vision every time the breakdown comes on (of course I had to download the song) -- a spacey, ethereal skate dream with a bit of a flamenco-ish guitar piped in -- I imagine the old roller rink (aptly named Skateaway; Hobbs, NM), littered with odd candidates for early 90s Prom King and Queen, a sea of veritable crazies, losers, drunks, virgins; parting as the music trinkles down -- and you see him. (Or perhaps you see her.) There's goosebumps, prickled neck hair, tightened pants, awkward fingertips, and the makeout session worth burning a book in your brain, lights twinkling, speed-chasers sliding into the walls without brakes. Like "Monster" sans mullet. It's the soundtrack to a salty sexual awakening. Goddamn, put this song in a bottle and sell it to kids that go to free-condoms-in-a-fishbowl schools.

(PS - Newest obession: Donnie Darko. And I know it's been others' for a while; just let me do this.)
