Things to look up as found in Aussie Vogue...

1. Emma Magenta's The Peril of Magnificent Love; $14.95 Random House; Sydney-based illustrator and author. A tale of a girl, who en route to "magnificent love," finds odd, furry friends and one mean closet-filling instinct. Featured line: "After some time, she stumbled upon the thrill of wearing gorgeous boots." I only wish I'd thought of it first. Verdict: Quirky, loveable, and totally buyable.

2. Peter Stichbury; Auckland artist. Obsessed with the notion of beauty, first impressions, and freaking everyone the hell out, Stichbury had been painting distorted beauties straight out of the magazines. He exaggerated the features, sold the paintings, and is now (!) working on studies of "freaks and geeks." Gallery buyers are so appalled. Verdict: I can't wait to see!

3. Zambesi; line of clothing designed by New Zealander Elisabeth Findlay. Besides listing her faves to be a green jaguar, Nina Simone, and surviving on "love and almonds," the clothes are not insanely expensive and are definitely magnetic. Verdict: Email her for an internship and get this down-under madness out of the brain already!
